Case Study 01
The Perfect Home,
The Perfect Home,
Missing One Feature
A contemporary log burner for a brand-new build — a striking black two-storey flue and a compact Scandinavian stove that became the heart of the home.

Project Focus
Minimalist design · A tight footprint · Low distance-to-combustibles stove
The Client
Gayle — Warwick
Gayle had just moved into a beautiful new-build and wanted a contemporary focal point for her open-plan living area. The space was well-proportioned but fairly tight, so the stove needed to be stylish without being intrusive — a real design challenge in a modern, thermally efficient home.
The Collaboration
01
Space Planning
We worked with Gayle to find the ideal spot — tucked close to the wall, out of the way, with no tiling or remedial works needed behind it.
02
Design & Drawing
A full scale drawing got the proportions and chimney design exactly right. We chose a cylindrical Scandinavian-style stove for its looks and compact footprint.
03
Hearth Design
A simple stone hearth with a curved front arc — clean and contemporary, complementing the new-build interior.
Every install starts on paper. We produced a full scale drawing of the elevation — plotting the flue run, the 22.5° offset around the soffit, support positions and hearth proportions — so the finished chimney would sit exactly right before a single hole was drilled.
The Install
250 mm core drill, wall-mounted — a clean cut straight through the brickwork
Powder-coated black flue up the gable end — roof stays added to divert around the soffit & gutter
Core Drilling
250 mm wall-mounted core drill — a clean penetration with minimal damage to the building fabric.
External Flue
Powder-coated black flue, bolted off a scaffold tower with roof stays for high winds & manufacturer specs.
Thermal Efficiency
A room-sealed vent keeps the build airtight — you can see the pipe at floor level behind the stove.
Safe Clearances
A low distance-to-combustibles stove — no wall tiles or heat shields required.

The Outcome
The Result
A striking feature you can see the moment the front door opens — even from the opposite side of the building. Gayle and her son now enjoy cosy winters by the fire, with near-zero running costs thanks to a tree-surgeon friend who supplies the wood.
The Ongoing Relationship
Returning Each Year
We come back annually to sweep and service the flue and carry out a full system health check — keeping Gayle safe and her stove running at its best.
