The clients had transformed their kitchen into a beautiful open-plan space with garden views and a large island — but something was missing. They wanted a feature fireplace at the heart of it, right where the family spent most of their time. The fireplace sat in the middle of the building, which meant the only route for the flue was straight up — through the box bedroom above, into the attic, and out through the roof.
